Why Recycle Food Waste?

The UK produces tonnes of food waste and green waste each year. Most of this is landfilled and this process emits methane gas, a harmful greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. Research has also concluded that energy from waste incinerators emits 33% more carbon dioxide per unit of energy generated than gas-fired power stations. Recycling more food and green waste is the environmentally sound solution for tackling this problem. It is estimated through trials that about 26% of waste can be collected from your general waste and converted to compost. It’s also a key plan in the government’s strategy on waste – helping the UK meet the terms of the EU Landfill Directive.

WRAP ( Waste & Resources Action Programme) is a non profit Government funded organisation that has a vision of  a world without waste where resources are used sustainably. Food waste is produced from residential, commercial and the supply chain sectors and according to WRAP it is estimated that it  accounts for 18 – 20 million tonnes in the UK alone.

These figures prove the need for a commercial food waste recycling programme that will benefit SME’s ( Small or Medium Enterprise’s ) and help our environment not only for today but for our future.

Eco Food Recycling provide a commercial food waste collection service to SME’s that will be 100% recycled either by IVC ( In vessel composting ) or AD ( Anaerobic Digestion ).
